Leeds United have been told exactly what James Trafford would bring as the Manchester City goalkeeper eyes a starting role after a year as back-up.
He could be on his way to Elland Road this summer amid interest from Newcastle and Aston Villa, and is said to be leaning towards Leeds, The Athletic reports.
Trafford has spent just one season at the Etihad Stadium, quickly becoming back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma. After impressing at Burnley, Marseille defender CJ Egan-Riley last year called him the best he has seen, backed him to reach the top, and said defenders trust him completely.
He is viewed as a potential heir to Jordan Pickford for England.
“If I were him, I would stay and try and fight for my place,” David James told Grosvenor Sport.
“What he has demonstrated when he has played, he has been superb. I mean, there are a couple of league games granted, and I think he only played four league games in the end. But definitely in the cups, where he is playing under pressure, especially at Wembley in front of 90,000 people in tough games, he has handled that pressure extremely well.”
