Leeds United are pushing to sign Wolves centre-back Santiago Bueno, already embedded in Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay set-up and attracting interest across the Premier League.

Sport Witness reports that Leeds are among four Premier League clubs in contact for the defender, with Crystal Palace also pursuing him.

The level of interest points to his availability this summer and the battle Leeds face to land him. With Wolves relegated, they are looking to take advantage.

Bueno has eight Uruguay caps, all won under Bielsa. He joined Wolves from Girona in 2023 in a £10m deal and is approaching three years at Molineux.

His recent call-ups show he is part of Bielsa’s current defensive pool rather than a late contender. He has a firm chance of making the World Cup.

Leeds’ push is not isolated, with the club also working on Wolves team-mate Ladislav Krejci as part of a centre-back rebuild. The dual pursuit points to a plan to add physical, high-output defenders.

This season he has averaged around three point nine clearances and one point five tackles per game, while completing close to 86 percent of his passes from more than 800 attempts. His duel success is just above 56 percent, comparable to Joe Rodon, and his aerial win rate is roughly 53 percent, slightly below Pascal Struijk.
