The Whites made their way into 2nd on Saturday evening following the 3-0 win over Wayne Rooney's side.

A stunning strike from Dan James, and a terrific finish from Brenden Aaronson either side of the number 10's goal handed Daniel Farke's team all three points in a fantastic eight-minute spell for the Whites in West Yorkshire.

It was a result that saw them close the gap to league leaders Sunderland to three points after they were held to a 0-0 draw away to QPR in what proved to be an excellent day for Leeds.

Farke has seemingly rid his side of their early season inconsistency, with the Whites now eight unbeaten, a run that stretches all the way back to September when they were beaten 1-0 by promotion rivals Burnley.

Nevertheless, it was another excellent day for the Yorkshire club at Elland Road, with Piroe scoring his fifth goal of the campaign.

The Dutchman had started to enter a slightly dry spell before Saturday's clash, however, he was quickly on hand to turn in from six-yards after the ball deflected into his path following an Ao Tanaka volley that was smashed into the ground.

He was able to remain calm and composed despite pressure from Bali Mumba and Dan Grimshaw in the Plymouth goal to turn home and double the Whites' lead just three minutes after James had put them in front.

It was a very good finish from the 25-year-old, given that he did not have much time to readjust his body, and it was one that earned the praise of former Leeds striker Beckford on Piroe's Instagram account, who had posted: "Perfect Saturday ✅📞"

The player-turned-pundit sent a simple, two-word message to the current star: "Ruthless finisher👏🏽🔥"

Leeds United could have inflicted more damage on Plymouth Argyle than they did

While it finished 3-0, it could have been more after what was an incredibly dominant performance for Leeds.

Wayne Rooney's Plymouth side were not able to contain the attacking prowess of the Whites, and failed to get themselves on the front foot at any point throughout the ninety minutes, failing to register a shot and having just 22% of possession.

It was another very tough away game for the Pilgrims, who have the worst record on the road in the Championship, picking up just one point, conceding 16 goals and finding the back of the net just once.

On another day, they could have been punished further, with youngster Charlie Crew coming close to his first Leeds goal late on, only to be denied by Grimshaw who tipped his long-range effort over the bar.

The Whites had 23 shots throughout the match, finding the target just seven times, but the damage was done early to Plymouth, who were under threat for nearly the majority of the game.

It was an extremely professional performance from Farke's side, one that demonstrates their promotion credentials, as they begin to chase down Sunderland at the top of the table.
