Paweł Cibicki has acknowledged that he expects to leave Leeds United this summer after failing to make an impact in England.
In 2017, he was purchased from Malmö for a fee of £1.5m but has been unable to recapture his previous form with the Whites.
He has spent time on loan at Molde and most recently Elfsborg, having not seen playing time for Leeds in 18 months.
As a result, he expects an agreement to be reached between United and Elfsborg that would see him stay in Sweden on a permanent deal, even if he’d welcome another chance at Elland Road.
“I’d go back to Leeds if they come back and say that they really want me,” Cibicki told Boras Tidning.
“But it seems far-fetched and the best thing is probably to find another solution.”
Elfsborg do have an option in the deal to make the move permanent for a fee of £800,000, although they have yet to exercise it.
However, sporting director Stefan Andreasson admitted that it is something the club were keen to explore.
“It is still early but over the course of the break we’ll look at the possibility of keeping Paweł with us,” he said to the same newspaper.
“We have a good dialogue with Leeds but the three parties must agree, but Paweł is certainly happy with us.”
The attacker has impressed since returning to his homeland, scoring four times in 11 starts.
He has yet to find the net with the Yorkshire club and made just 10 appearances in total.
