Leeds United have been linked with Hibernian’s Josh Mulligan, a versatile 23-year-old likened to James Milner. The Daily Mail claims Leeds have made an approach ahead of the winter window.

Milner, a Leeds academy graduate and boyhood fan, debuted in 2002 at 16, making 54 first-team appearances before a glittering career. He has 61 England caps, three Premier League titles and a Champions League, plus 645 Premier League games, nine short of Gareth Barry’s record 653.

Mulligan’s athleticism has even prompted Gareth Bale comparisons, but it is his adaptability that most recalls Milner. He is often used on the right of midfield or in the centre, with 55 appearances centrally and 70 on the right.

He can also fill in at the back, operating at centre-half and right-back when required. Those traits echo Milner’s capacity to slot almost anywhere and keep standards high.

Nottingham Forest are also keen on the Hibernian No.20. Meanwhile, Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto are struggling to break into Daniel Farke’s plans.

If a switch to Yorkshire happens, Mulligan could shape into a modern-day Milner for Leeds. With Milner still playing Premier League football one month shy of 40, Mulligan is viewed as having the potential to reach comparable levels.
