Leeds United mural at Elland Road reworked, Nicolas Dixon says it is better than the original | OneFootball

Leeds United fan artist Nicolas Dixon has unveiled the completed mural at Elland Road and believes the new iteration is better than the original.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, plans for a new West Stand were approved in January and stadium works required the artwork to be shifted, with its previous wall set to become the club’s new security hub. The existing hub will be knocked down and outward kiosk windows were needed, so the mural was moved and repainted.

The club recommissioned Dixon, known for the Bielsa The Redeemer mural, to relocate his 2022 tribute, originally commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters Trust to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1972 FA Cup win.

He said it was a privilege to be asked back and that opportunities like this rarely come twice. The refreshed work, positioned at the north east corner, uses Paul Trevillion portraits reinterpreted in Dixon’s abstract style and features Don Revie, Les Cocker and several iconic players.

With redevelopment gathering pace and the new season nearing, Dixon urged Daniel Farke’s side to keep pushing and called for a couple of new signings. He said he was sure they would have a great season, signing off with Marching On Together.
