Leeds United have confirmed that preparatory work for the redevelopment of Elland Road will require a mural to be relocated and repainted.

The club said in a statement that Nicolas Dixon has been recommissioned to recreate the artwork so it keeps its prominence, adding that work on the new security hub will begin from Wednesday 25 March. It also thanked the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust for its cooperation and support.

Plans for a new West Stand received planning permission in January, and the 2022 mural is included in the works package.

The piece sits at the north east corner of the ground and marks the 1972 FA Cup win, featuring manager Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and a host of now-iconic players.

Dixon was originally commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust to hand paint an abstract design in 2022, using original portraits designed by fellow artist Paul Trevillion to mark 50 years since the triumph.

The existing wall is earmarked for the club’s new security hub, with the current hub to be demolished. New outward kiosk windows leave no space for the artwork in its present position.
