Leeds United are not pursuing a deal for Danilho Doekhi this summer despite earlier links with the Union Berlin centre-back.

Fabrizio Romano reported in April that Daniel Farke’s side were among the suitors, while The Athletic says club sources assessed him mid-season but now insist he is not a target.

Doekhi is set to leave Union Berlin when his contract expires this month, making the 27-year-old available on a free.

The defender has not missed a single minute of Bundesliga action for two consecutive seasons and contributed seven goals this term.

Leeds, who have secured their Premier League status and expect a busy window, may now look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

Passing on a free move for a durable, goalscoring Bundesliga centre-back looks a missed opening. If Pascal Struijk does depart, swapping him for Doekhi without a fee could have been inspired.
