Kalvin Phillips says proximity to home was part of why he accepted a loan to Sheffield United.

According to Opta, Nottingham Forest are likelier than Leeds to stay up, though the Whites are still forecast to survive. West Ham, who made five signings this month, are given an 82.7% relegation chance compared with Leeds at 9.8%.

The midfielder only learned at midday on deadline day that a switch to Bramall Lane was a real possibility. He has played just seven minutes for Manchester City this season and none since September.

Phillips said he spoke with Chris Wilder, was impressed by the calibre of the squad, and simply wants to play and enjoy his football, so Sheffield United felt the right fit.

He has already spoken with former promotion team-mate Patrick Bamford. He arrives alongside ex-Leeds loanee Joe Rothwell, who has moved to Sheffield from Rangers.

Leeds made no deadline-day additions, but Daniel Farke still had reason to be pleased. His son, Luis Engelns, completed a permanent move to Hoffenheim from Paderborn, opponents in pre-season. The 18-year-old impressed in that friendly and Farke has said he would never sign his son, so the step up will be a source of pride.

Leeds are six points above West Ham in 18th and could be nine clear with victory over Forest on Friday, before the Hammers visit Burnley on Saturday.
