Leeds United have sent 17-year-old Harry Gray on his first senior loan to Rotherham United until the end of the season, the club said, adding they will track his progress closely.
Leeds described the England youth forward as a major talent after 11 goals in 13 Under-21 matches under Scott Gardner this season. He heads to the New York Stadium for senior experience.
Gray has trained with Daniel Farke’s first-team squad since age 15, including successive pre-season camps in Germany. He made his debut off the bench against Stoke City on the day promotion back to the Premier League was sealed last campaign.
Opportunities have been limited in the top flight. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has led the line, with Farke at times fielding a front two featuring summer signings Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor alongside him. Last season’s top scorer Joel Piroe has often been on the bench, underlining the competition for minutes.
This season Gray has impressed against EFL opposition, scoring twice against Accrington Stanley in the Vertu Trophy and hitting a hat-trick against Scunthorpe United in the National League Cup.
He now links up with Matt Hamshaw’s Millers, who aim to climb the League One table in the second half of the campaign. Leeds wished Gray well for his spell in South Yorkshire.
