Beşiktaş have formally approached Leeds United to sign goalkeeper Illan Meslier. They are moving fast to take advantage of the fact that the Turkish transfer window stays open until Friday.

While the British market shut down on Monday, this timing gives the Black Eagles another 72 hours to register new players. It is a tight window, but they are determined to secure the Frenchman.

Beşiktaş Launch Late Bid for Outcast Leeds Goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Sabah first broke the news, and journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, via Sport Witness, later confirmed that the Istanbul club are already talking to both Leeds and the player’s camp. Reports suggest Beşiktaş have only turned to the 25-year-old after Chelsea blocked their move for Filip Jörgensen and Leeds said no to an inquiry for Lucas Perri.

Now, the Süper Lig side are putting all their energy into settling terms for the former FC Lorient keeper before the clock runs out.

This move could be a massive career lifesaver for the former France Under-21 international. Daniel Farke has completely pushed him out of the picture at Elland Road, leaving him out of matchday squads for over two months.

It is a clear sign that the manager doesn’t see a place for Meslier in his current plans. With the player now in the last six months of his contract, Leeds risk losing a valuable player for absolutely nothing if they don’t let him leave now.

Why Leeds need to let him leave?

Beyond that, paying a high-earning player just to sit in the stands is bad business, especially when a buyer is waiting. A move to Turkey gives Meslier the chance to actually play and fix a reputation his long absence from the first team has damaged. The Whites clearly see Lucas Perri as their future number one. Keeping a player they don’t need just causes friction in the dressing room.

The club need to be realistic and let the deal happen. Selling him lets Farke focus on the players he actually wants to use, while giving Meslier the fresh start he clearly needs. Beşiktaş are waiting for the green light, and it makes perfect financial sense for Leeds to give it to them immediately.
