Leeds United are reportedly interested in Haji Wright and Josh Sargent of Coventry and Norwich City respectively

Coventry City and Norwich City may both be poised to share a similar fear ahead of the January transfer window despite finding themselves at opposite ends of the 2025/26 Championship table at this moment in time, with Leeds United reportedly considering approaches for USMNT pair Haji Wright and Josh Sargent.

The Sky Blues have enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign following last season's agonising play-off semi-final defeat to eventual victors Sunderland, and remain undefeated after 12 matches with a staggering goal differential of +25.

Coventry, who have a three-point advantage at the top of the league table over second-placed Middlesbrough heading into Friday evening's trip to Wrexham, have won each of their last five matches and are representing strong candidates to achieve promotion at the second time of asking under hugely-popular head coach Frank Lampard.

Norwich, meanwhile, could not have endured more contrasting fortunes in recent times, with boss Liam Manning under significant pressure and scrutiny from supporters following a disastrous start to life at Carrow Road after joining from Championship rivals Bristol City in the summer.

The Canaries parted ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup after spending much of the previous campaign situated in mid-table, but, with just two wins and a whopping eight defeats to date, are now second-from-bottom in the Championship, only above crisis-stricken Sheffield Wednesday.

Leeds United eyeing Coventry City's Haji Wright & Norwich City's Josh Sargent

As per a recent report from Leeds United News, last season's Championship title-winning Whites remain interested in potential approaches for two of the second-tier's leading marksmen in Wright and Sargent of Coventry and Norwich respectively.

It's said that Leeds considered a move for Wright in the summer transfer window amid Daniel Farke's search for fresh striking options, with the 27-year-old having struck 12 league goals from 29 appearances throughout his second campaign at the CBS Arena, before eventually settling on Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in free transfer deals instead.

However, interest is believed to remain despite Leeds enjoying steady form upon returning to the top-flight at the second attempt, with Farke's side having won three of their opening nine matches to collect 11 points.

The same applies for Sargent, who was also reportedly on Leeds' radar in the summer and was the subject of a bid from fellow Premier League returnees Burnley. Sargent, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, ended up staying at Norwich while the likes of Borja Sainz and Marcelino Nunez moved on.

Both Coventry and Norwich will share an eagerness to retain their prized goalscoring assets in January, with Lampard in particular recently suggesting how the Sky Blues will stand firm once more in the New Year if interest arises in stars such as Wright, Jack Rudoni and Milan van Ewijk.

January interest in Wright's services does appear to represent something of an inevitability for Lampard.

Whether it will be entertained, of course, is another matter entirely, with the ex-Trabzonspor star perhaps unlikely to angle for a top-flight switch considering the current strength of Coventry's automatic promotion ambitions, but his performances are sure to place him firmly in the shop window nonetheless.

Wright has established himself as Lampard's first-choice number nine this season, and that faith is being repaid with a return of eight goals from 11 appearances. At the minute, he's only being outscored by free-scoring teammate Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose nine strikes places him at the top of the Championship charts.

Sargent, on the other hand, is yet to enjoy such prolific goalscoring form in 25/26, although his inconsistencies are caveated by Norwich's own struggles and the burdensome task of supplying his side's seemingly-sole goal threat.

The USMNT international, two years his fellow countryman and Stateside teammate's junior, is without a goal in his last seven matches, but did start the campaign in inspired form and will be looking to rediscover his touch in a bid to help the Canaries steer away from the wrong-end of the league table in November and beyond.
