Leeds United meet Wrexham in their first pre-season friendly in the USA at 12.30am UK time on Sunday, and this is our predicted XI.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, United flew out on Tuesday for a tour also featuring Liverpool and Sunderland, naming a 30-man squad with some to join after the 2026 World Cup. Noah Okafor has an extended break after Switzerland’s quarter-final run so is absent, while Brenden Aaronson, Gabi Gudmundsson and Ao Tanaka are included, and nothing is close on transfers.
New arrivals Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic travel, with Anton Stach and Ilia Gruev back from injury and several youngsters included. Daniel Farke’s selection is a guessing game, Okafor will not feature and Aaronson, Gudmundsson and Tanaka could come into contention later in the tour. The same may apply to Muharemovic after his World Cup minutes.
In goal, Alex Cairns looks the percentage call. With Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier gone, Lucas Perri had been first choice while United pursue James Trafford, and Friday brought word Torino were closing in on Perri, although he may not leave until another keeper arrives.
Assuming a strong side, Jayden Bogle should start at right-back. Jaka Bijol appeals at centre-back alongside Joe Rodon, with Muharemovic perhaps involved later. If not Rodon, youngster Alfie Cresswell or James Justin are alternatives.
At left-back, Jayden Lienou could get the nod, with Gudmundsson likely later. Availability may lean towards a back four, and Justin or Sebastian Bornauw are further options in defence.
