Leeds United have begun immediate works at Elland Road, with new aerial footage showing the first steps in the stadium’s redevelopment that aims to take capacity to around 53,000. The project, granted planning permission earlier this year, will prioritise a new West Stand before attention turns to the North Stand.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, work started almost as soon as the final home game ended, with journalists asked to leave the West Stand media room by 7pm so activity could begin.
The footage shows the removal of the Portakabins that served as away-team dressing rooms for Championship and Premier League visitors. The cabins, supplied by York firm Britcab before the first season back in the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa to meet Covid safety measures, had remained in place, and were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
Also visible are the partial demolition of the ticket office and the building that housed some LUTV operations. Floodlights have been taken down, and crests removed from the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand.
A temporary structure behind the North Stand, expected to host corporate facilities during the works, had already begun rising before the end of the season.
