Leeds United set to miss out on Jorgen Strand Larsen, no plan for alternative

Leeds United look set to miss out on Jorgen Strand Larsen, yet have stayed at the table, and are not expected to pursue an alternative.

According to Leeds Live, Wolves accepted a £48 million offer from Crystal Palace after Leeds capped their bid at £40 million, and the 25-year-old has completed a medical. His agent, Tore Pederson, is a Leeds season ticket holder, and the striker is understood to have favoured Elland Road.

With Wolves stoking a bidding war, the Premier League's bottom club were always likely to take the highest offer. Palace are in a stronger position after selling Eberechi Eze to Arsenal and Marc Guehi to Manchester City, and could add £26 million if Jean-Phillipe Mateta joins AC Milan subject to medicals.

Leeds have little PSR headroom, and any amortised deal would still need to be balanced by 30 June. United therefore look set to end the window without a new striker, with Strand Larsen viewed as a unique market opportunity and faith kept in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, who have 14 goals between them.

Daniel Farke’s comments suggest he wants a goalkeeper in before seven pm after dropping Lucas Perri, who was signed to upgrade on current number one Karl Darlow. Joel Piroe is set to stay despite enquiries, with loans off the table, and Farke said no-one else, including Illan Meslier, has asked to leave. The third-choice goalkeeper was unlikely to go anyway, and as it stands Facundo Buonanotte could be the only January arrival.
