Leeds United are set to sign teenage defender Leonard Ngenge after agreeing a pre-contract before his 18th birthday.

Ikorodu City’s sporting director told All Nigerian Soccer in March that Ngenge had a pre-contract with Leeds, having been scouted in Nigeria and twice trained in Yorkshire, with an August move expected.

Instead, he joined Nigeria Professional Football League side Remo Stars in August and has played seven games in all competitions. He turned 18 in September.

On Wednesday morning, the centre-back posted an Instagram story appearing in a Thorp Arch dressing room, wearing this season’s Leeds training gear and holding boots.

It is likely the 18-year-old will link up with Scott Gardner’s Under-21s initially as he settles in England, having senior experience with Ikorodu City and Remo Stars.

The young Whites already have Jacob Howard, Reuben Lopata-White and Louis Enahoro-Marcus in central defence, while 37-year-old Jonny Howson has also been used there after arriving in the summer as a player-coach with the academy.
