Leeds United’s pursuit of Julian Brandt has suffered a setback, with his entourage seen at Real Betis after behind-the-scenes talks.

According to ElDesmarque, a photo showed the 30-year-old’s representatives, including his father, leaving Betis’ training ground on Tuesday morning, and they are said to have offered the former Borussia Dortmund attacker to the La Liga side.

Daniel Farke signalled at the end of last season that his long-term future hinges on backing in the market. The hierarchy have moved to act, lining up Harry Wilson on a free as the first signing of the summer, while Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande has emerged as a potential record-breaking arrival.

Talks to take Brandt to Elland Road on a free have also taken place, yet signs suggest he is not necessarily tempted, even with a German manager in charge. Betis are strengthening their squad for a UEFA Champions League return, although they are not currently pursuing Brandt.

Brandt would be a high-profile capture if Leeds can get it done. For now, he appears to favour a Champions League platform, with Elland Road looking more like a fallback option.
