Leeds United left-back Gabi Gudmundsson has moved to calm injury fears with a four-word Instagram update after a knee knock on Sweden duty.

He started Thursday’s play-off semi-final, earned his 22nd cap, then took a second-half blow to his knee, tried to continue and was substituted. The player said in a post that “See you on Tuesday”.

Sweden finished bottom of their qualifying group but reached the play-offs via their Nations League ranking, then beat Ukraine 3-1 to stand one game from the World Cup.

Post-match, Gudmundsson had ice strapped to his knee and described it as looking after his body.

The 26-year-old has impressed since arriving from Lille last summer and is targeting a spot at this summer’s World Cup. His message came ahead of Tuesday’s play-off final against Poland.
