As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds released their retained list on Wednesday, having earlier confirmed that Illan Meslier would leave when his contract expires this summer. Facundo Buonanotte returns to Brighton after his loan.
The club also said Karl Darlow, Sam Byram and Alex Cairns are out of contract this summer, with talks under way about their futures. With a demanding second season back in the Premier League ahead, recruitment is likely to be pivotal. This outlines the current strongest XI following that update.
In goal, Karl Darlow’s deal expires this summer and he is reportedly of interest to Manchester United as a back-up, but Leeds are in talks and he remains first choice after a strong second half, replacing Lucas Perri.
At right-back, Jayden Bogle is the clear pick, with James Justin a strong alternative across the back line.
At centre-back, Joe Rodon looks a certain pick despite competition and a seemingly preferred 5-3-2 shape.
Jaka Bijol, a summer 2025 signing, impressed in the second half of the season and appears best stationed in the middle of a back three.
Pascal Struijk provides a left-footed option that is in short supply and is another automatic pick. He is out of contract next summer.
At left-back, Gabi Gudmundsson is first choice, and the Swede is among four Leeds players set to compete at the World Cup.
