Leeds United begin their Premier League campaign at the City Ground this afternoon, with Daniel Farke naming a starting XI that includes three competitive debuts against Nottingham Forest. The hosts are now led by former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, club-record signing James Trafford starts in goal after an assured pre-season, behind a back three of Jaka Bijol, Joe Rodon and debutant Tarik Muharemovic, the latter arriving from Sassuolo for £34.1million.
James Justin lines up at left wing-back with Gabriel Gudmundsson sidelined by a muscle issue, while Jayden Bogle starts on the right after signing a new four-year contract. Rodon has also penned a four-year deal, following captain Ethan Ampadu’s extension until 2030 earlier in the summer.
Ampadu partners Anton Stach in central midfield. Brenden Aaronson operates from the left, with fellow debutant Harry Wilson on the right, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the line. Farke had suggested the trip might come too soon for Noah Okafor to start, and he is among the substitutes.
A fourth debut could come from the bench, with Nico Elvedi included after completing his move from Borussia Monchengladbach this week. Goalkeeper Lucas Perri and youngsters Jayden Lienou and Alfie Cresswell are among the substitutes, alongside Sean Longstaff, Ao Tanaka, Dan James, Okafor and Felix Nmecha.
Leeds XI: Trafford, Rodon, Bijol, Muharemovic, Bogle, Ampadu, Stach, Justin, Wilson, Aaronson, Calvert-Lewin. Subs: Perri, Lienou, Cresswell, Elvedi, Longstaff, Tanaka, James, Okafor, Nmecha.
