Leeds United tie Jayden Lienou to three-year deal before US tour | OneFootball

Leeds United have secured 18-year-old defender Jayden Lienou to a new contract ahead of his involvement with the senior squad on the US pre-season tour.

The club said in a statement that Lienou has signed a three-year deal, keeping him at Elland Road until 2029. He impressed in his debut campaign with Scott Gardner’s Under-21s, making 26 appearances and facing senior opposition in the EFL Trophy and National League Cup.

He joined from Manchester City last summer and featured heavily for the Under-21s. Late in the season, Daniel Farke named him on the bench against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion after Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury.

Lienou, capped by Wales at Under-19 level, was called up by Craig Bellamy for the post-season camp and friendlies with Ghana and Romania. He drew praise from Bellamy and was an unused substitute against Ghana.

He has trained with the first team from the outset of this pre-season and is expected to fly to America today for the tour.

Farke highlighted the need for more left-footed options last season, with Gudmundsson the only natural senior left-back. Pascal Struijk has departed, £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic will play at left-sided centre-back, and the Whites are expected to assess further left-back options this summer.
