Leeds appear to be working on a deal to sign Ruben Vargas, with a £17m bid being prepared, according to OrgulloBiri, a source close to Sevilla.

The Switzerland international has three goals and four assists across 12 La Liga appearances this season. Tottenham and Aston Villa are monitoring him. Sevilla could have a dilemma if a £17m offer arrives because of financial issues and other needs.

That would give Leeds a strong chance of striking an agreement this winter. Sevilla are five points off the European places, and investing across the squad would give Matias Almeyda a better shot at qualification.

Daniel Farke has recently switched Leeds to a 3-5-2, a tweak that has delivered results, including points against Chelsea and Liverpool.

The system uses wing-backs rather than wingers, which may complicate Vargas's role. He has featured six times on the left, three on the right and twice as a central attacking midfielder this term. He might seek assurances over minutes if a move progresses.
