Daniel Farke’s three years at Elland Road have lacked a consistent creator in the role. Brenden Aaronson has shown flashes but not consistency, while pursuits of James McAtee and Fabio Carvalho came to nothing. January arrival Facundo Buonanotte also struggled to make squads.

Wilson was close to joining Leeds last summer before Fulham pulled the plug. After a standout campaign with 17 Premier League goal involvements, interest emerged from bigger clubs this summer.

The deal offers Leeds a player some believe could fill the Pablo Hernandez void. Hernandez made 175 appearances for Leeds with 77 goals and assists, while Wilson has produced 89 goal contributions in 187 Fulham games, the majority in the Premier League.

Hernandez created 116 chances in 2018-19, Wilson created 102 in 2021-22. Hernandez averaged an expected goals figure of 0.22 per 90 at Leeds, Wilson has 0.29 at Fulham. Hernandez’s expected assists were slightly higher at 0.31 compared with Wilson’s 0.26.
