Leeds have three weeks until the winter window opens on Thursday 1st January. A switch to a 3-5-2 under Daniel Farke has eased urgency, having troubled Pep Guardiola and revived the campaign. Even so, with Leeds only two points above the bottom three, reinforcements remain in play.

Leeds Live reports that sources close to Elland Road expect chances to recruit players who are unsettled at their clubs and looking for more game time.

That points to the 49ers being open to additions despite PSR pressure after a £100m summer spend. No names were cited.

Before that line emerged, the Mirror claimed Leeds had approached Manchester City about Kalvin Phillips. Sportsboom stated Raheem Sterling is also a target amid his banishment at Chelsea.

Neither England international has played a single second of Premier League football this season, and both want to reset their careers. The above could mean moves for Phillips or Sterling, perhaps both, depending on how cooperative Manchester City and Chelsea are.

The pair earn £250,000 and £325,000 per week respectively, so Leeds will surely need the UEFA Champions League clubs to help cover those salaries. If Leeds can find a way to land both in January, it could prove pivotal in the fight against relegation.
