Leeds United’s pursuit of Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia has been halted, with TEAMtalk reporting the club were preparing a £17m offer but have now been told to move on.
Endrick has joined Lyon on loan and Kylian Mbappe is sidelined, while Garcia hit a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday. The report adds Xabi Alonso has decided to keep the 21-year-old and has told Leeds, Sunderland and VfB Stuttgart to look elsewhere.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds have a £25m budget for this window, so committing a sizeable fee to a forward who would not start regularly appears unlikely.
Daniel Farke is seeking a deputy to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha, who arrived on free transfers in the summer and have impressed. The pair are prone to injuries, however, and Joel Piroe is not trusted at Premier League level.
In that context, missing out on Garcia may suit Leeds’ priorities, with resources better directed toward an affordable back-up striker rather than a rising talent expected to play limited minutes.
