Leeds wrap up their US tour against Liverpool on Sunday, and the transfer work is only just beginning. With James Trafford expected, Leeds still want a second goalkeeper, left-back cover, a midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a striker.
Leeds have signed Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson, and remain focused on completing a deal for Trafford that includes add-ons. David Ornstein reports Charlie Cresswell is set to join Rennes on a loan with an obligation, with Leeds retaining a 15% sell-on, after starring in France amid Premier League links.
Leeds are again considering Igor Paixao after narrowly missing out last summer, when he chose Marseille over Elland Road. The Brazilian has struggled to make an impact in France.
Joe Gelhardt had seemed close to a permanent move to Hull City after shining in their promotion run, yet no agreement has followed and he did not join Leeds for pre-season. Hull are not expected to move for at least two weeks, with any decision to hinge on their coach’s view of his potential minutes.
Max Wober’s year was bleaker still, just three outings at Werder Bremen before joining Schalke on a free. Facundo Buonanotte made no impression after arriving in January, and could also head to Schalke this summer.
At full-back, Leeds are content with Jayden Bogle and Gabi Gudmundsson, so the search is for a versatile deputy rather than a marquee addition. A reunion with Max Aarons is being explored after his return to Bournemouth from a loan at Rangers.
