The Whites are preparing to embark on their first Premier League campaign in three seasons and are looking to bolster their squad suitably.

Daniel Farke and Co. will be desperate to buck the recent trend of promoted teams suffering relegation straight back to the second-tier and will need to recruit well to give themselves the best chance of survival.

The Whites are keen to add a quality No.10 to their ranks ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

According to TBR Football, recruiting one of Buendia or Hamer is thought to be Leeds’ priority in the attacking midfield area.

Buendia has previously played under Daniel Farke during their time together at Norwich City and is believed to still be extremely fond of the Argentinian.

The Aston Villa playmaker spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, with the German side thought to have a £17 million buy option as part of the deal.

Hamer has been outlined as a cheaper alternative to Buendia and a more realistic option for Leeds this summer.

The report also states that an agreement for either player would signal a potential Elland Road exit for Brendan Aaronson.

Buendia penned a new deal at Villa Park in January which would keep him there until 2027, allowing Unai Emery’s side to command a sizeable fee for the 28-year-old’s services.

As per reports from talkSPORT, Hamer's departure is expected over the summer and may be more enthusiastic to pursue a move to Leeds when compared to Buendia.

Hamer may prove to be the more reliable option for Leeds

Leeds United clearly mean business as they prepare for life back in the Premier League and are looking to add top-flight quality to their squad.

Buendia has operated out of the Premier League for four seasons and would bring guaranteed expertise to the Whites’ creative department.

That said, the Argentinian’s recent injury record in recent times is a cause for concern.

After missing the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, it is yet to be seen whether Buendia can return to his previous performance levels.

The 28-year-old scored once and failed to assist in 19 appearances for Villa this term, form that wouldn’t command a lofty transfer fee from Leeds.

On the other hand, Hamer has just come off a season that has seen him crowned as the Championship’s Player of the Year and is producing the best, most consistent performances of his career.

Therefore, if a choice between the two needs to be made, signing the player in better form and for less money seems like an obvious decision for Farke and Co. this summer.
