Dominic Calvert-Lewin is due to leave England’s camp along with seven others before Tuesday’s Wembley friendly against Japan, after making his return in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay.
The federation announced that a revised squad of 27 is preparing for Japan, with eight players set to depart, including Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori and Calvert-Lewin. John Stones returns to Manchester City for assessment after a training issue, while Adam Wharton and Noni Madueke head back to their clubs with knocks. Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment.
Calvert-Lewin earned his recall after strong form for Leeds and was named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Tuchel rested several stars, including captain Harry Kane, with Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke starting as Calvert-Lewin began on the bench.
He replaced Solanke shortly after the break and linked play neatly, but then headed wide from close range.
From a corner he challenged at the near post and the delivery ran through for Ben White to tap in at the far post, the defender’s first England goal. Uruguay levelled late with a contentious penalty.
Friday’s arrivals also included Dean Henderson, Nico O’Reilly, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guéhi, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Morgan Rogers, Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane.
