Dominic Calvert-Lewin has earned an England recall, ending a five-year wait, for March fixtures against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley.

The Athletic reported his involvement shortly before the official announcement. Thomas Tuchel has selected a 35-man squad for the camp.

Tuchel said the group has been split in two to assess players they have not seen much and to raise competition for plane tickets to the US. From Friday and Saturday, a further group of rested players will join, around ten or 11, before a new mix goes into the Japan match.

The Leeds United striker hit form in November and December, scoring in six consecutive Premier League games. He has 10 goals from 27 top-flight appearances, and his overall play has been important as Leeds seek to stay above the drop zone.

Signed as a free agent in the summer after leaving Everton, he arrived with a plan to keep him fit, just as with Manor Solomon and Junior Firpo. The work has paid off, with 2,031 Premier League minutes so far.

His competition for the central role includes England’s first-choice striker Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke.
