Last Saturday, Zinédine Zidane was the guest of honor at the Multiverse Swiss Expo in Geneva. While the legendary French-Algerian icon naturally drew huge crowds, the event ultimately descended into chaos.
Attending the 2025 edition of the Multiverse Swiss Expo—a pop culture exhibition held this weekend in Geneva—Zinédine Zidane stirred up the anger of many fans. “In our world, he is an icon. But in the Multiverse... he becomes a myth. His very first appearance at a convention promises a truly timeless moment, filled with emotion, inspiration, and action (...), tickets are selling out faster than a top-corner strike,” the organizers had promised.
“Zinédine Zidane will be present to share unique moments with his fans. This is a rare opportunity to meet, in the flesh, someone who has made sporting history and continues to inspire the world. You’ll be able to say: ‘I was there,’” also read the Multiverse Swiss Expo’s Facebook page. The organizers had even announced a football match pitting ZZ against the public. But while Zizou did show up, the event ultimately ended in disappointment.
For one, ZZ did play a match—but against the Servette FC Chênois women’s team, not the public as advertised. On top of that, he was virtually unreachable for most attendees. While a handful of fans managed to get close, the promised meet-and-greet sessions were canceled. This sparked outrage among fans, including those who had purchased VIP passes. Swiss media even reported altercations between visitors—who accused organizers of false advertising—and expo staff.
