“Xabi Alonso? It is a great challenge for him now as a coach. I hope he succeeds, that Real Madrid wins and continues to win, as he has done all these years,” Pepe said.

Having played for Real Madrid from 2007 to 2017, Pepe experienced firsthand the guidance of some of the world’s top coaches, including Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

Reflecting on his time under Mourinho, Pepe noted Alonso’s curiosity and dedication during his playing days.

“When Mourinho was our coach at Madrid, Xabi (Alonso) sought out a lot of information, spoke with him a lot, asked him why things were done a certain way and gave him his point of view.

“It’s a big challenge for him now as a coach. I hope he’s successful, that Real Madrid wins and keeps winning, as it has done all these years,” he added.

Pepe also shared his opinion on Carlo Ancelotti’s current project with the Brazilian national team.

“I worked with Ancelotti; he is a fantastic person. I’m sure he will do a great job with the Brazilian national team,” he said.

The former Real Madrid and Porto centre-back also paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, highlighting the emotional impact when the superstar eventually retires.

“It will be difficult for us, the fans, when he decides to stop, turn on the television, and no longer see Cristiano Ronaldo’s name.”

Finally, Pepe expressed optimism about Mourinho’s influence on Portuguese football, following his return to Benfica.

“He’s a coach with an impressive career, and now he’s in Portuguese football. His presence is positive because it elevates the Portuguese league to another level worldwide.

“I hope he can coach the Seleçao in the future; he’s shown interest,” he concluded.
