Lego will launch a free, alcohol-free fan zone at Parc de la Villette in Paris from 13 June to 19 July, built around match screenings and family activities. The World Cup takes place from 11 June to 19 July.

L'Équipe reports that the site will sit by the Géode in the 19th arrondissement, adding to a separate Coca-Cola-backed zone planned on the Seine.

The Danish brand, a partner of the World Cup staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico, aims to offer a different experience. Across 1,800 square metres, it has a stated capacity of about 2,000 visitors per day for screenings and Lego-themed activities, including building workshops, a collaborative mural, five-a-side pitches and creative spaces for children from age six.

A four metre-high Lego brick replica of the World Cup trophy and a diorama made from more than 400,000 pieces are due on site. Earlier this year, the company released a toy version of the tournament trophy.

The fan zone plans to show France matches and nearly one game a day, with some screenings scheduled until 23:00. Its defining choice is a 100 per cent alcohol-free policy, intended to create a friendly, inclusive, family setting rather than the livelier mood often associated with big-match gatherings.
