Leicester City are considering an appeal after the EFL imposed a six-point deduction for a PSR breach, a sanction that drops them to 20th in the Championship, outside the bottom three on goal difference.

An independent commission ruled on the 23-24 period and recommended the penalty, which has been enacted immediately. The club said in a statement that they were disappointed and would use the time available to weigh next steps.

The sanction was characterised as disproportionate, despite the panel reducing the unprecedented level originally pursued by the Premier League, and it was argued that mitigating factors were not properly reflected given the potential impact on this season’s aims.

The commission agreed FY24 compliance should be measured over a 36-month period, a point highlighted as important for FY25 compliance certainty.

The panel applied no aggravating factors and recognised a positive financial trend in FY24. The decision is being reviewed and options considered, with an intention to engage constructively and ensure any action is fair and proportionate.
