Leicester City could be set to land themselves a true ‘wonderkid’

Article image:Leicester City could be set to land themselves a true ‘wonderkid’

The term wonderkid is often overused these days, but when it comes to Genk’s Bilal El Khannouss, its pretty accurate. The Genk attacking midfielder has shown incredible ability at the age of just 20, with plenty of top sides having been tracking his progress. Now, HLN are reporting that he has agreed personal terms with Leicester City. The Premier League side are now in talks with Genk over the fee. Many had expected RB Leipzig to opt for the Moroccan international after the departure of Dani Olmo, but they shopped in Brugge and picked up Antonio Nusa instead.

Reports suggest Leicester have bid around €15-20m, certainly not enough to temp Genk into selling, but enough for negotiations to begin. Transfermarkt value the young midfielder at €30m and Genk will be looking to get in excess of that if possible. The player is also under contract until 2027, but Genk were always resigned to the fact they would be selling him this summer. In 94 appearances for the side so far he has scored four goals and grabbed 14 assists, but his impact on the side is far greater than that. He links the play together and is involved in almost every attacking move Genk develop. Often he provides the hockey assist, the final pass before the registered assist.

Given the interest in him from clubs bigger than Leicester, it is certainly a coup for the foxes if they can get this one over the line.
