Leicester City have been docked six points for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, pushing them towards a Championship relegation battle.

The Mirror reports that the penalty will drop them to 20th, outside the bottom three on goal difference, and leave them on 32 points level with Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion.

An independent commission found the club in breach for 2023/24. Leicester posted combined losses of more than £200 million across the three years to 30 June 2024, while PSR permits a maximum loss of £81 million over the same period.

The sanction covers spending from 2023/24, the season they won the Championship title and sealed automatic promotion ahead of Leeds United. Leeds finished third and later lost the play-off final to Southampton at Wembley.

Leicester have consistently contested the Premier League’s charges. A hearing was held in November and the commission delivered its verdict on Thursday.

Before the deduction, Leicester were 17th with 38 points from 30 matches.
