The Foxes go into the fixture bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table while Manchester City are the long-time leaders.
Manchester City are expected to win the game but Leicester City boss Passmoor says that his side go to The Joie Stadium with a positive mindset and nothing to lose.
“Nobody is expecting anything from us therefore it’s a free-hit really to go to Manchester City, put in a performance and get a result,” Passmoor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “This team and this coaching team are going there with the positive mindset to do that.”
Leicester City dropped to the bottom of the table last weekend after relegation rivals West Ham United and Liverpool both won. Passmoor says that his side’s performances have been good and they must now pick up some points.
He said “What you’ve got to do is look and change the narrative in terms of the games that we played, we’ve deserved points. The performances have been improving, we still have to continue to improve; be more resilient in small moments at one end and take opportunities at the other.
“There were interesting results on Sunday which went against us. There has been improvement and now that you’re going into the business side, you’ve got to pick up the points.
“Where we are, we’ve got to look at the points collected so far and what we want to achieve in the next few games. The bottom-four will always swing, carousel up, down and around, so we just have to make sure that we are at our best every time to achieve the points that we think we will require to stay in the league.”
Leicester City have players in their squad that have been in similar positions before. While those individuals can bring experience, Passmoor says that it’s about collective effort and mindset.
He said “They bring that experience and knowledge but the narrative is with Leicester that we’ve got to be all off the same wicket and we are all saying the same things around each other. Whether it’s staff or players, we need to know what we want to achieve and how we want to achieve it. Everybody needs to speak as a group, not as an individual because we have to be a group on and off the pitch.
“It’s familiar territory but what we are trying to do in the mid-to-long-term is change that presumption of Leicester City. We want to make sure we are a sustainable mid-table team where we can attract and grow our own players. Right now, we want to stay in the league and that’ll add stability then we can start to grow.”
Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Friday evening.
