Leicester City are optimistic of completing three deadline-day deals before the 7pm cut-off to bolster the spine. No arrivals have landed this winter, with injuries and departures leaving gaps across the squad.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, City are working on moves for Manchester City’s Divine Mukasa, Southampton’s Joe Aribo and Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles.

Andy King confirmed interest in Mukasa at the weekend. He is being lined up for a loan to compete with Bobby De Cordova-Reid at number 10 while Aaron Ramsey is out, having shone for Man City’s Under-21s and made six senior appearances this season.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Mukasa can also play up front, potentially offering competition for Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka.

Aribo also looks set to join on loan. The Nigeria international would likely vie with Louis Page for number eight while Jordan James is sidelined, and has only seven outings this season after being key in promotion two years ago.

Lascelles would add experience at the back, with numbers thin after Wout Faes’ loan to Monaco and Jannik Vestergaard’s injury. The 32-year-old would return to the Midlands on what looks a permanent deal, having developed at Nottingham Forest.

Praised for leadership and box defending, his fitness is a concern after only 19 minutes of senior action across the past two seasons. Further business is not ruled out, with links to former number one Mads Hermansen and doubts over Harry Winks, but the trio remain the focus as the deadline nears.
