Leicester City are in advanced talks to appoint Russell Martin as manager, The Telegraph reports, and he is viewed as the club’s prime target, though he has yet to accept the job.
Martin has been on the club’s radar for years and was considered last summer before Marti Cifuentes was appointed. Owner Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabh is said to admire his style of play, seen as similar to Enzo Maresca’s approach in 2023/24.
The former Scotland international was sacked by Rangers after just 17 games last season. He had previously led Southampton to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
Gary Rowett remains in charge on a short-term arrangement that was due to expire at the end of last season. There has been no communication on whether the 52-year-old will continue.
The prospect of leading the Foxes out of the third tier is being seriously considered as talks continue in England and overseas.
City’s pre-season is due to start at the end of the month. The League One campaign begins in mid-August, leaving scope for a new head coach to work with the squad if appointed soon.
