Leicester City have taken an interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to the Sunday People (via Caught Offside).

The Foxes' recruitment team have needed to prepare for life in both the Premier League and the Championship ahead of next season, with the club letting a huge lead at the top of the table slip.

However, their win against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend has put them four points clear of Leeds United who are in third.

Goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy put the Foxes in control of that game before Jed Wallace set up a nervy finish, but Enzo Maresca's side were able to hold on in the end.

With Leeds and Ipswich Town not in action this weekend, this allowed Maresca's men to capitalise and they were able to do that, with the Foxes now in a very strong position ahead of the final three games of the Championship season.

They have been further boosted by the fact Southampton lost on Saturday, having previously re-joined the race for a top-two finish.

The Magpies' man's future is currently uncertain at this point, amid interest from elsewhere.

His contract at St James' Park is set to expire in 2025 - and Eddie Howe is thought to be a real admirer of him.

However, the Sunday People (via Caught Offside) believe the Magpies could accept a bid of around £15m-£20m this summer.

That's a hefty fee for Leicester, who may need to raise funds before the end of June if they are to avoid further charges and sanctions for financial breaches.

However, their chances of securing his signature may be boosted if they are promoted back to the top flight, something that looks likely at this point following their win on Saturday.

Leeds are also thought to be keen on the player, but they are also in the Championship and are likely to need to secure promotion if they want to secure his signature.

Maresca has a number of quality midfield options at his disposal.

However, he may need some signings in this area during the summer transfer window.

Dennis Praet and Wilfred Ndidi's contracts expire at the end of the campaign - and it wouldn't be a surprise to see both of these players leave this summer.

Not only could those two leave, but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may also depart, having attracted plenty of interest in recent months.

If Leicester do need to cash in on players to raise a decent amount of funds before the end of June, Dewsbury-Hall is a player they should be looking to sell considering how valuable he is.

Still having three years left on his contract and performing so well this term, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him leave for £30m or more.

If those three players leave, more midfielders will be needed and Longstaff could be a useful figure because of this.
