New faces Mads Hermansen, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were all in the matchday squad for the first time for the Foxes, though only Hermansen was handed a start between the posts.

Steve Cooper's side had the better of the first half, with Stephy Mavididi having an effort cleared off the line and Harry Winks firing over.

But they struggled after the break, and fell behind on the hour mark as Federico Di Francesco pounced on an error to give the Serie B side the lead.

The Foxes were let off late on as Roberto Insigne hit the post, but despite the introduction of De Cordova-Reid they could not find a way through the Palermo backline.
