This is reported by The Telegraph’s John Percy, who has revealed that negotiations are underway over a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The Foxes have been on the lookout for a new boss in the dugout after sacking Marti Cifuentes towards the end of January, with the search being intensified after they dropped into the bottom three following Blackburn’s victory at QPR last weekend.

Leicester were unable to generate any momentum under the interim stint of Andy King, with the club losing all of their four games under his guidance, with their squandering of a 3-0 lead against Southampton to lose 4-3 epitomising their struggles.

But now, the Foxes are set to hand the reins over to Rowett, who will look to taste further success in the Championship after his previous stints at Millwall and Oxford United.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, Leicester City have accelerated their search for a new boss and have entered advanced talks over appointing Gary Rowett.

It is believed that discussions are taking place over Rowett taking over the team on a short-term basis, until the end of the season, to ease Leicester’s worrying relegation fears.

Following Blackburn’s victory at QPR last weekend, it has seen the Foxes plunge into the bottom three of the second-tier, with a turnaround in results needed quickly if they to avoid dropping back into League One for the first time since 2009.

Rowett has a tough ask to arrest the slide at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester without a win in their last six Championship matches and unable to keep the defensive gate shut in recent weeks.

The first task for Gary Rowett, if he enters the Leicester City hotseat, will be to make the team hard to beat.

The team has a soft underbelly, conceding such poor goals in recent weeks, with their defensive frailties on show against Southampton as they crumbled under the pressure of defending such a big lead.

But there will be some optimism, particularly with Rowett delivering successful periods for both Millwall and Oxford United in recent years.

Rowett consistently had Millwall in play-off contention in his three full seasons with the club, and although they never quite made it into the top six, he helped establish the Lions as a top-half second-tier side.

His record at Oxford will be called into question, and while he did leave the U’s League One-bound, he did keep the club up in their first season back in the Championship, which was an incredibly hard feat to achieve.

For the majority of his time in the second-tier, Rowett has managed to be a success, and there’s no reason why he can’t go into Leicester and transform a group of players who are badly lacking in confidence and need a figure who they can battle and scrap for during the remainder of the campaign.

With their Championship status on the line, Leicester are utilising this opportunity of a manager like Rowett being available, with this type of appointment potentially marking a huge turning point for their fortunes.
