According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Russell Martin is out of work and in advanced talks with Leicester City over their vacancy, while he is also under consideration at Burnley. Both clubs are seeking to bounce back from recent relegations.
Leicester are prioritising Martin because the ownership admire his possession-first approach, seen as a neat fit after Enzo Maresca’s similar blueprint.
City’s opening comes as they prepare for League One following relegation to the third tier. Interim boss Gary Rowett put himself forward in May, though his future has not been confirmed.
Dutch coach Rene Hake is viewed as a strong alternative and has also held talks. He recently became available after a leadership shake-up at Feyenoord led to the coaching staff departing.
Hake’s CV includes a spell as assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, plus head coach roles at several Dutch top-flight sides.
Burnley are searching for a permanent successor to Scott Parker, and new advisor Monchi has asked about Martin, alongside candidates such as Steven Gerrard.
Martin’s managerial record is mixed, from leading Southampton into the Premier League to a 123-day stint at Rangers that ended in dismissal. The coming days will be critical as he decides whether to take a Championship project or rebuild Leicester in League One.
