Leicester City are not believed to have lodged a £3 million bid for Boreham Wood forward Abdul Abdulmalik. Claims of a formal proposal have been played down.

Speculation had built around the National League player after Boreham Wood rejected a £1 million offer. The Hertfordshire club have already turned down two bids from Swedish side Djurgardens.

Only two non-League deals have fetched higher sums than that rejected bid, and only one would top the mooted £3 million for Abdulmalik. Max Kilman earned Maidenhead United £4.4 million when he joined Wolves, while Jamie Vardy moved for an initial £1 million plus £700,000 in add-ons.

Head coach Russell Martin has made six signings this summer, most recently Wes Burns from Ipswich Town on a three-year contract, with the fee understood to be £75,000. Burns follows Tommy Watson on loan from Brighton, Christian McFarlane on loan from Manchester City, Liam Cullen from Swansea City, and free agents Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy.

City want to keep Harry Souttar despite public interest from Sheffield United, whose bids have been rejected. "There's been a couple of offers, but no discussions, and the answer has been no," he said. "We're looking for people who will add to the squad in a few positions." He was speaking to LeicestershireLive. "People will only leave when it's right for us and it's right for them, both parties are happy with how it looks."
