Leicester City head coach Willie Kirk believes that his side will contest a tightly-fought encounter against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The Foxes travel to Prenton Park this afternoon to battle it out for a place in the semi-finals.

Kirk is expected to be missing from the dugout as he assists the club with an internal process, however, he spoke to the media ahead of the game. He said that he expects the tie to be tight and that Leicester City want to make up for their previous defeat at Prenton Park.

“I think it’ll be tight,” Kirk said. “There’s not a lot between the two teams; we’ve got our strengths and they’ve got theirs and they’re markedly different. We’ve got to make sure that we match theirs and try to bring our style and the way that we want to play.

“We were really disappointed with that game at Prenton Park, I thought that we underperformed on the day. I thought that we lost emotional control. It was probably the poorest performance that we’ve had this season in terms of coming off the park and being really frustrated at what we turned out. We want to put that right, we had a really good performance against them in the Conti Cup and we had a lot of good performances against them last year. The most recent game was the one at Prenton Park and that’s the one that we want to put right.”

Going on to discuss opponents Liverpool, Kirk said that he has been really impressed with the Merseyside club’s progression this year.

He said “They’ve been fantastic. They’ve had three wins in a row and have had two clean sheets within that. They’ve taken massive steps from last year, they’re the first team for a while that has seriously threatened the top four.

“They’ve probably underachieved in the last few years, they’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. They’ve not been in an FA Cup quarter-final for five years. They have been underachieving but it’s about time that they started achieving. Matt [Beard] has done very well. I’ve been really impressed with them, they’ve been so efficient in what they do. They are result-hungry, they do what it takes to get a result.

“They’re in a good place, they’re a team in form but I don’t think our form is too bad neither. There’s not a huge difference between the teams. They’ll go into it as favourites but we will go and try to cause an upset.”

Leicester City’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at Liverpool kicks-off at 12pm.
