Leicester City are poised to appoint former player Gary Rowett as head coach as they fight to avoid relegation from the Championship. Rowett looks set to replace Marti Cifuentes, dismissed three weeks ago.
BBC Radio Leicester reports that the 51-year-old, sacked by Oxford two months ago, took training on Wednesday.
The Foxes sit third from bottom, two points shy of safety with 14 games left.
Rowett spent two years at Leicester after arriving from Birmingham City in 2000. He has since managed five Championship clubs, Birmingham, Derby County, Stoke City, Millwall and most recently Oxford, where he was in charge for almost a year before his dismissal in December 2025.
Leicester have lost all four matches under interim boss Andy King since Cifuentes' departure, and in that spell were docked six points for breaching spending rules after a protracted legal battle.
That deduction, combined with a seven-game winless run featuring six defeats, has dragged them into the relegation zone. They dropped into the bottom three on Saturday when Blackburn Rovers leapt above them by beating Queens Park Rangers, while Leicester were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton.
