Leicester City have completed the signing of Jamaal Lascelles from Newcastle to address a mounting defensive shortage.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the 32-year-old has joined on a permanent, short-term deal to the end of the season and should be the first of three arrivals on the day after deadline day.
City have not kept a clean sheet in their past 24 Championship matches and are short of centre-backs. Wout Faes has gone on loan to Monaco, Jannik Vestergaard has joined Harry Souttar on the injury list, and Caleb Okoli is suspended for this weekend’s trip to Birmingham.
That left Ben Nelson and teenage full-back Bade Aluko as the likely pairing. Lascelles arrives to reinforce a unit under strain.
Lascelles has been at Newcastle for more than a decade after joining from Nottingham Forest, where he came through the youth ranks. He has made more than 250 appearances and captained the side in many of them, drawing praise for his leadership.
Fitness is a consideration. He missed the whole of last season with an ACL tear and, since returning this season, has played only two matches, both as a substitute in September.
Given the availability issues at centre-back, Leicester may need him to start immediately this weekend.
