Leicester City teenager Jake Evans has made a flying start on loan at Cheltenham Town, scoring three and assisting one in four games, including a brace in Tuesday night’s win over York City. His run has drawn a “Little Rooney” comparison from a long-time mentor.

The 18-year-old joined the League Two club on a season-long loan last month after spending the second half of last term with Northampton Town, and he has already made four senior appearances for the Foxes. “Next week Jake rocked up looking like a little Wayne Rooney, a 13-year-old beast!”, he told GloucestershireLive.

“So I said 'let's go' and he was great from day one, with that left foot wand.” “He's a great player and lad, who just has to keep producing and the sky's the limit for him.”

Holman has worked with Evans since he was 13, runs Goalman Football specialising in individual training for forwards, and played a part in the move to Whaddon Road. A former striker, he scored 16 in his first 18 Cheltenham appearances a decade ago.

Cheltenham manager Steve Cotterill said Evans showed exactly why he pursued him. He expressed delight to have secured him for this season after trying last year, and highlighted his humility, family support and toughness.
