Leicester City are on the verge of appointing James McCarron as their sporting director, according to The Sun.
The City Football Group executive is currently director of player development and is poised to take the newly created post at King Power Stadium.
McCarron has been associated with Manchester City for much of the past decade. He served as head of sports science and medicine for three years before spending four seasons as sporting director at sister club Lommel in Belgium.
Since last summer he has worked as director of player development at City Football Group, which owns 11 clubs worldwide including Manchester City, Girona and Palermo.
Leicester began their search for a sporting director last autumn following a restructure of the hierarchy. The role will sit alongside director of football Jon Rudkin, covering transfers, contracts and managerial appointments, and setting the club’s direction.
Chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha said last month the appointment would be central to restoring a clear Leicester identity. He cautioned there would be no instant overhaul, stressing the need to build both squad and culture over time. He added the hire would not be a wizard, but someone sure about how City should play and able to help the manager and players understand it.
