Calvin Stengs is reportedly of interest to the newly-relegated Championship side
Leicester City are reportedly interested in making a transfer move for Feyenoord's out-of-favour attacking midfielder, Calvin Stengs.
According to a report from Dutch news outlet, De Telegraaf, the eight-time Netherlands international is of interest to the newly-relegated Foxes, who have endured an extremely slow and frustrating maiden transfer window under the management of Marti Cifuentes, alongside Serie A side, Pisa.
Since taking the reins from Ruud van Nistelrooy in July, the former Queens Park Rangers boss has seen plenty of experienced players depart the King Power Stadium to seek fresh challenges, whilst only one signing has come through the door in the form of experienced deputy goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic.
Amid a cloud of financial uncertainty in this part of the East Midlands, the Foxes have continued to be linked with a handful of high-quality incomings in a bid to maintain a sustained promotion bid in the Championship, with Stengs certainly falling under said category given his previous pedigree in the Eredivisie and Europe.
The 26-year-old, a product of the AZ Alkmaar youth system, has racked up over 230 senior appearances in his career to date, featuring for the likes of OGC Nice, who he signed for in a €10m deal four summers ago, as well as his current employers, moving to De Kuip two seasons ago following a loan stint in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.
Stengs also has eight senior caps for the Netherlands as experience to call upon since starring on debut where he accumulated two assists in a 5-0 success against Estonia in November 2019.
However, last season saw the creative figure make just 16 appearances across all competitions for Feyenoord amid lengthy injury issues, and he is yet to make an appearance under Robin van Persie this term, plunging his immediate future with the Dutch giants into serious doubt.
It has been reported by Football Insider that SPFL champions, Celtic, are preparing an offer for the Dutchman in the final days of the window, with Brendan Rodgers' side believing they could end their lengthy pursuit of a new wide man with a cut-price deal for his services.
However, it has now emerged that his former side, who picked up their second win of the campaign against Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon, are also keen on moving for Stengs as they brace themselves for interest in the likes of Bilal El Khannouss and Abdul Fatawu between now and 7PM on September 1st.
De Telegraaf's aforementioned update also states that Pisa and the Foxes remain as more likely destinations for Stengs, with the report claiming that Celtic's interest isn't as concrete as first envisaged, with the Feyenoord hierarchy also keen on doing business with the English and Italian outfits.
As previously mentioned, Stengs was previously an attacker with great potential that has since been blighted by injury, meaning a move to a side expected to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League could be an exciting proposition.
The Foxes haven't exactly been free-flowing under Cifuentes in the early stages of his tenure too, with both victories against Sheffield Wednesday and the Addicks being by a one-goal margin, albeit the aforementioned Fatawu's strike at the Valley showcased the quality which remains among the ranks.
However, there are clubs still circling around the Ghanaian and other attackers, meaning strength in-depth is a necessity, and if Stengs could replicate the form of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who excelled in an advanced midfield role during the club's title-winning success two seasons ago, it would stand the Foxes' aims in good stead.
