A fairly well-known pundit, who often discusses the lower leagues and occasionally the Midlands in particular, has been talking about Leicester City. Jamie Vardy was the main subject, aside from the Foxes' unfortunate spiraling plight as is the case these days. The expert rightly took the time to cite the striker as one of the greatest players to ever feature for LCFC. He then, naturally, went on to consider whether or not it would be best for Vards to stay on Filbert Way or leave for new pastures.
Yet the writer appeared to stay on the fence somewhat. His conclusion regarding whether or not the east Midlands club should move on from the legendary No.9 is equivocal as I see it at least. However, within the noteworthy instruction for the King Power hierarchy is knowledge along with prudence. Leicester are, slightly reluctantly, informed that now is the correct stage to initiate a succession plan for Vardy's eventual retirement.
I'll be honest here, I think City should have arguably already signed an appropriate centre forward to replace the irreplaceable. Obviously, as I implied, Vardy cannot be replaced as such. Though someone, substandard or otherwise, must be ready to take the iconised footballer's position eventually. He is 39 in January after all! But will the retired England man remain a Fox for the 2025/26 Championship campaign or not?
We face facts at this site. And we have stated on many occasions that JV9 cannot go on forever. While sentimentality persists, a judicious approach in sport is best everytime.
Hopefully Vards can stay on at LCFC in some capacity when he does hang his boots up for good. A coaching role was recently suggested. For now, many fans are wondering if he'll play next season. David Prutton has an angle there:
"Jamie Vardy - do you stay at Leicester? Depends - depends what the money’s like, depends how he’s going to be used in what would be a Championship campaign next year... So, if he chooses to give it another bash, I think it would be - at some point you’ve got to have a succession plan - but I think a Jamie Vardy force of personality at Leicester City is a good thing."
